Shooting rider interviews
Posted by Neil Hartmann on May 4, 2008
Have started shooting rider interviews for Car Danchi 3. Yesterday the first rider to come around was Uemura. After the interview I shot a few portraits of Ue near my house. Simple set up with one flash high left. Used a grid on the flash to narrow the light. F10 at 1/250

Today I started off the day by driving up to Kokusai ski resort to check out what might be the last day of the season. The snow is almost completely gone at the bottom of the resort. You can still ride at the top, but have to download on the gondola now. They are scheduled to be open until the 6th, but staff told me they are expecting strong winds tomorrow so might have to close early….

There were not that many people there, a few older men on solo missions to get one more day of skiing in. There were a few groups of young snowboarders, everybody looked pretty hot and tired at lunch time. We ate some Ramen and I bought my next season’s pass. If you pay before May the 6th, it is 30% off, so it is only 48,000 yen. Not a bad deal. Decided that I should get it, busted out the visa card and went for it! Check out everybody eating Lamb BBQ and drinking beer.

Came back home, made some coffee, and waited for Mino Yuusuke to come by. This was the second rider interview for Car Danchi. Mino did a super good interview for me today. Sometimes it is hard to interview people you know real well, but I was stoked by his performance today. He also had some very funky sunglasses that helped keep things loose.

I realized that I need to get a teaser done for the new movie by the end of this month. I only get back from Tokyo on the 15th, so it is going to be tight trying to get these interviews done and edit a teaser.
My set up for filming Mino’s interview. a nearby deserted lot.
