Two days in Tokyo

Posted by Neil Hartmann on May 13, 2008

Ok I have been in Tokyo for two days, taking care of business meetings etc., check out some of the funny stuff I have seen along the way.

Lets start off with this store sign in Shibuya. Skull Shit. I had to stop and take out my camera to get a picture of this. What a classic name for a store, Skull Shit.

Then I saw this huge billboard also in Shibuya. I was staring at it for awhile before I figured out what it was advertising. Check it.

Stop STD! It actually says Stop STD. Can you believe that? In Japan a huge billboard with a sexy girl, lips wet and parted as if to say “come on” and it is actually an ad to stop sexual desease. What idiot came up with the concept for that ad? At least they could write the message in Japanese, or are they trying to blame English speakers for STD’s? What exactly is the message? Anyway thought it was worth a shot.
Next went to see Shingo Takahasi’s track bike shop in Shibuya. He has been in business for about 6 months now and seems to be doing well. Check him out if you are in the neighborhood. “Sexon Super Peace”

Next stopped by my new DVD distributor. Visualize Image based in a new office in Shibuya. Everything is in Shibuya now, rather practical for me. Looking forward to working with the new crew there, they are going to be distributing all the big name snowboard video releases for the next season. Mack Dawg, Standard Films and yes now One Films will be joining the big names to try and sell a few copies of Car Danchi 3. By the way the sell date for Car Danchi 3 has been decided, we are going to aim for August the 8th as a release date here in Japan.

What are they shipping now at Visualize Image? How about the track bike movie “MASH”.

Next went to see Chida-san at Crue-L records. This guy is always so busy, he basically runs the entire record label by himself, so he can be hard to get ahold of. I was lucky to catch him in the office for a few minutes. Right now I am looking for new music for Car Danchi 3 and I wanted to check out the new releases from Crue-L. I picked up a few CD’s of some new music, will let you know more when I get a chance to check it out.

Next went to Burton and checked out the new skate bowl they built on the first floor. Amazing bowl, tried it out but was rather tough for a weak skater like me. Full concrete coping like a real pool. The staff at Burton are getting pretty damn good at riding it from what I saw. Must be nice to have a skate bowl right inside the company you work for, and it is not even a skate company.

Also saw Japanese legendary snowboarder Kenji Ishikawa at Burton. One of my favorite riders in Japan respect Kenji.

Had to wrap up the day with a walk through the main crossing in Shibuya. There are some real characters walking around there, who needs a tv when you can walk around Shibuya and just watch the wackos.

    LOL!

Neil, that girl in the STD ad is a porn actress! I googled her name and found some ‘interesting’ sites!

Maybe that’s a business you could get in, if global warming continues to wreck havoc to our winters!
