A movie I produced recently for THE NORTH FACE Japan, check out the amazing story of the teams climb as told by Hiroyoshi Manome!
Expedition to Kyashar South Pillar First Ascent
“The Nima Line”
Climbing team: Yasuhiro Hanatani, Hiroyoshi Manome, Tatsuya Aoki
Kyashar Expedition dates: 2012/11/6~12
The Japanese climbing team including THE NORTH FACE alpine climber Hiroyoshi Manome succeeded in summiting Kyashar (6760m) in the Khumbu region of Nepal on the previously unclimbed south pillar. Leaving base camp on the 6th of November they climbed for five days to reach the peak on the 11th at 4pm. Hiroyoshi Manome describes the climb in detail in this in-depth interview. Photos and video from the climb show the simplicity of the alpine style with which they climbed. The first in a new series from THE NORTH FACE Japan “The Climbers Story” “The Nima Line”

Killian Jornet is a well-known name in Trail-Running and Ski Mountaineering, now he is taking on a new project that combines all his skills with a few new ones. Check this out!
“Our steps follow our instinct and take us into the unknown.
We no longer see the obstacles behind us, but look forward to the ones ahead.”
Kilian is about to embark on some colossal personal challenges that will test his fitness, resolve and skills far beyond the reaches of his career so far. Combining his tremendous capacities for physical endurance with the mountain environment he is so passionate about, Kilian will undertake a number of feats throughout the coming years that stand to change our perception of human capabilities.
The multiple record holder and 3-time winner of the Mont Blanc ultra trail will bring together the sports of ski alpinism and ultra running as he attempts a series of mountain routes in ground-breaking style – several of them never attempted previously. This spectacular journey will redefine the idea of ‘traveling light’ with technical equipment and back up kept to a bare minimum. The powerful force of nature will provide a rich backdrop for encounters with the natural world and humanity as Kilian attempts the ‘Summits of My Life’.
The project begins this summer in the Mont Blanc massif, where Kilian will set out on two incredible mountain trips, traversing the massif from east to west (Champex to les Contamines) on skis, and then from south to north (Courmayeur to Chamonix) climbing and running. Neither of these routes have been attempted in previously. The project will continue into the coming years, with record attempts planned on Mount Elbrus, the Matterhorn, a speed attempt of Mont Blanc, Mount Mckinley, Aconcagua, and all culminating in an exciting expedition to the roof of the world, Mount Everest.
Montaz-Rosset film are delighted to be part of this incredible project – follow the action on the project website and join us on facebook.
“It’s not about being the fastest, the strongest or the biggest.
It’s about being ourselves.”

Arty little clip from a climbing trip with the TNF team. Nice narration. How come British accents work so well for narrations?
I met profession climber Cedar Wright in Mexico in December of last year, check out this nice climbing vid he shot and edited.
The Japanese subtitles version of Xavier’s “This is my Winter” is now on vimeo for viewing! Please watch this movie if you have any interest in snowboarding and or mountains or mountaineering! Great film, 28 minutes long, plus I worked hard to make the subtitles look good so give it a read!
Great movie from THE NORTH FACE, with super footage and editing skills from the Camp 4 Collective. Very impressive to see this team put together such high quality film making at such high altitude! Featuring the Skiing of Sage and Snowboarding of Lucas Debari. Excellent.
Although I was injured with a few broken vertebrae in my neck during this expedition it was awesome to live vicariously through the edit process! cheers, ~reo
“In a lot of ways, this is the antithesis of the modern ski porn flick. A lot of rock star skiers and not much skiing! Ha! Well, hopefully having a narrative helps the piece along. It was a tough piece to put together with all the different characters. I decided to focus the story on Sage and Lucas and was hoping the piece would give people a sense of who those two characters are besides being rock star skiers/snowboarders. I often feel like the whole process of skiing and who the skiers actually are gets lost in most of the films today.” ~jimmy chin
Free-ride skier Sage Cattabriga-Alosa and big mountain snowboarder Lucas Debari step out of their elements and make an attempt to climb, ski and snowboard Denali. Sage and Lucas get a helping hand from a huge cast of seasoned and professional climbers and ski mountaineers from the North Face Athlete Team, including Hilaree O’Neill, Conrad Anker, Ingrid Backstrom, Jim Zellers, Emilio Previtali and Giulia Monego, as the two embark on the hardest expedition of their lives.

You would think this is a trailer for a new adventure movie, the voice over narration, the titling, very slick editing on this one. Hard core winter expedition by The North Face athletes. Read a story about this expedition in a magazine, very interesting, would be great to see the speaker series live.
